I don't know why we do this, but for some reason, we tell ourselves that we're the only ones going through some sort of challenge in our careers. And for some reason, we act like saying it out loud makes it worse.
Like if we just keep it to ourselves, maybe it'll resolve on its own. Maybe if we don't name it, it's not as real. Maybe if we power through without asking for help, we'll look stronger on the other side.
But here's the thing: silence doesn't solve problems. It just lets them fester.
I've had coaching calls where someone unloaded in the first five minutes — years of frustration, fear, confusion — and by the end of the call, they said something like, "I feel like I can breathe again." Not because I had some magic answer. But because they finally said it out loud to someone.
There is something powerful that happens when you name the thing. When you stop keeping it in your head and actually speak it into existence. It stops being this abstract cloud of dread and becomes a real, manageable thing that you can actually do something about.
Are you struggling with a decision? Say it out loud. Are you burned out in a way that's starting to scare you? Say it out loud. Are you unhappy in a role that looks great from the outside? Say it out loud.
You don't have to have a solution before you're allowed to name the problem. In fact, naming it is often the first step toward finding one.
And here's the other thing: you are not alone in whatever you're going through. Not even close. The career challenge that feels uniquely yours has been felt by thousands of people before you. Which means there's wisdom available. There are people who've navigated it. There are answers — but only if you're willing to start the conversation.
Be willing to say it out loud. Not just to yourself, but to someone who can actually help. That's not weakness. That's wisdom.
