Privacy Policy
This is the straightforward version of a privacy policy. No lawyer-speak, no dark patterns. This page tells you what data the site collects, how it's used, and what rights you have, including specific rights for California residents.
What Data Is Collected
This site collects the following categories of information:
- Contact form submissions: Your name, email address, LinkedIn URL (if provided), and any message content you submit through the contact form. Processed through Formspree.
- Analytics data: Page views, time on site, general location (country and city level), device type, browser, referral source, and other standard web analytics collected via Google Analytics (GA4).
- Newsletter subscription data: Your email address, submitted voluntarily through the beehiiv newsletter form.
- Payment information: If you purchase a course, coaching, or Growth Table membership, payment details are collected and processed by Stripe. This site never sees or stores your credit card information.
How Your Data Is Used
- Contact form data is used solely to respond to your inquiry. It is processed through Formspree and delivered to Scott's email. It is not sold, shared for marketing, or used for any purpose beyond responding to you.
- Analytics data helps improve the site. Understanding which content resonates, where visitors come from, and how the site performs. Google Analytics processes this data under their own privacy terms.
- Newsletter data is used to send you the daily newsletter you subscribed to. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email.
- Payment data is processed and stored by Stripe under their privacy and security policies. Review Stripe's privacy policy at stripe.com/privacy.
Cookies and Tracking Technologies
This site uses cookies, which are small text files stored in your browser. The cookies on this site come from:
- Google Analytics (GA4) for site performance measurement.
- Meta Pixel (Facebook Pixel) for measuring the effectiveness of ads on Instagram and Facebook. The Meta Pixel sets cookies that identify your browser to Meta and is used to attribute conversions to ads you may have seen.
- Third-party services like beehiiv and Formspree may set their own cookies when you interact with their embedded forms.
You can block or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings. If you prefer not to be tracked by Google Analytics specifically, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. To opt out of Meta Pixel tracking on this site, see Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information.
Advertising and Analytics
This site advertises on Instagram and Facebook (both operated by Meta Platforms, Inc.) and uses the Meta Pixel on every page of the site to measure those ads. The Pixel ID used on this site is 1531356478589262. Here is what the Meta Pixel does in plain language:
- Page views. The Pixel records that you visited a page on this site. Meta uses that information to figure out which ads led to which visits.
- Conversion events. When someone completes a Signal subscription purchase, a Purchase event is sent to Meta with the dollar value of the purchase. The event does not include your name, email, or payment details.
- Automatic Advanced Matching. If you submit a form on this site (for example, the contact form, the newsletter signup, or a Signal-related form), the Pixel may automatically hash certain identifiers and send those hashes to Meta. Hashing is a one-way transformation that lets Meta match you to your Meta account if you have one, without sending your raw information. The identifiers that may be hashed and shared are: email address, phone number, first and last name, city/state/zip/country, date of birth, gender, and an external user ID if available. Sensitive information such as payment card numbers, health information, or government ID is never sent.
- Conversions API Gateway. The same events may also be forwarded server-side through a hosted Meta gateway. This is functionally equivalent to the Pixel but improves accuracy when ad blockers or browser privacy features prevent the browser-side Pixel from loading.
- Retargeting audiences. Visitors to this site may be added to custom audiences in Meta Ads Manager. This is what allows this site to show you ads on Instagram or Facebook after you have visited a page here.
To stop the Meta Pixel from running on this site for your browser, see Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information. You can also adjust your ad preferences directly on Meta at facebook.com/adpreferences and accountscenter.instagram.com/ad_preferences.
Do Not Track Signals
Some browsers let you send a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal to websites you visit. There is no widely adopted industry standard for how sites should respond to DNT signals. This site does not currently respond to DNT signals and operates as described in this policy whether or not a DNT signal is received. If a universal standard is adopted in the future, this policy will be updated to reflect how the site responds.
Third-Party Services
This site uses the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy that governs how they handle your data:
- Google Analytics: policies.google.com/privacy
- Meta Platforms, Inc. (Instagram and Facebook advertising, Meta Pixel, Conversions API): facebook.com/privacy/policy
- Formspree (contact form): formspree.io/legal/privacy-policy
- Stripe (payments): stripe.com/privacy
- beehiiv (newsletter): beehiiv.com/privacy
- Patreon (content subscription): patreon.com/policy/privacy
- Netlify (site hosting): netlify.com/privacy
Data Retention
Contact form submissions are retained only as long as needed to respond to your inquiry and keep a record of our correspondence. Analytics data is retained per Google Analytics default settings (26 months). Payment records are retained by Stripe per their standard policies for tax and legal compliance. Newsletter subscribers remain on the list until they unsubscribe.
Sale and Sharing of Personal Information
This site does not sell personal information for money. Under California law (CCPA/CPRA), however, the term "sharing" has a specific meaning that covers sending identifiers to third-party advertising platforms for cross-context behavioral advertising, even when no money changes hands.
Because this site uses the Meta Pixel and Automatic Advanced Matching to advertise on Instagram and Facebook, hashed identifiers (such as a hashed email address or hashed phone number) may be sent to Meta Platforms, Inc. when you submit a form on this site. Under California law, this counts as "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising, and you have the right to opt out.
To opt out of this sharing, go to Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information. Opting out turns the Meta Pixel off for your browser on this site.
Other third-party service providers listed above (Stripe, Formspree, beehiiv, Patreon, Netlify, Google Analytics) receive your data only for the specific operational purposes of running the site, processing payments, delivering the newsletter, or responding to your contact request. That is not considered a "sale" or "sharing" under CCPA.
Your California Privacy Rights
If you are a California resident, you have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA). These include:
- Right to Know: You can request a copy of the personal information collected about you, the categories of sources it came from, the business purpose for collecting it, and any third parties it has been shared with.
- Right to Delete: You can request deletion of personal information collected from you, subject to certain legal exceptions.
- Right to Correct: You can request correction of inaccurate personal information.
- Right to Opt Out of Sale or Sharing: This site uses the Meta Pixel for cross-context behavioral advertising, which counts as "sharing" under California law. To opt out, go to Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information. The opt-out takes effect immediately for your browser and disables the Meta Pixel on this site for you.
- Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information: This site does not collect sensitive personal information as defined by California law (such as Social Security numbers, precise geolocation, or health data).
- Right to Non-Discrimination: You will not be denied service, charged different prices, or given lower quality service for exercising any of these rights.
To exercise any of these rights, email scott@thescottbond.com with the subject line "California Privacy Request" and describe what you're asking for. Requests will be verified and responded to within 45 days as required by California law.
Shine the Light Law: California Civil Code Section 1798.83 permits California residents to request information about the disclosure of personal information to third parties for the third parties' direct marketing purposes. This site does not disclose personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes.
