Sometimes you need people to push and encourage you, even if you don't think you need it.
A few weeks ago, I hired a marketing and brand strategist. I was hesitant at first — not because I didn't see the value, but because I've always had a bit of a "I can figure this out myself" mentality. Sound familiar?
Within the first conversation, she said something that I hadn't heard in a long time: "You're really good at this. Let me show you how to get even better." Simple. But it landed differently than I expected.
Here's what I realized: most of us significantly underestimate the power of having someone in your corner who believes in you and has the expertise to accelerate your results. We hire coaches for athletes. We hire trainers for physical fitness. But when it comes to our professional and personal development, we suddenly think we should be able to do it all alone.
Support isn't weakness. Support is strategy.
The people who grow fastest aren't lone wolves grinding it out in isolation. They're the ones who know how to leverage other people's strengths, perspectives, and expertise to multiply their own. They ask for help. They pay for guidance. They surround themselves with people who challenge them.
Think about your own career. When have you grown the most? I'd bet it wasn't when you were figuring everything out by yourself. It was when someone believed in you enough to push you, gave you honest feedback, or opened a door you didn't even know existed.
We're all capable of more than we give ourselves credit for. But sometimes you need someone else to see it first.
Don't wait until you're stuck to ask for help. Don't wait until you've exhausted every option to bring someone in. The sooner you build a support system — whether that's a coach, a mentor, a strategist, or just someone who calls you on your nonsense — the sooner you'll start moving at a pace you didn't think was possible.
The power of support isn't just practical. It's emotional. It's someone saying "I see what you're building, and it matters." Sometimes that's worth more than any tactic or strategy.
